Goal Setting 101 – Start Small and Get Bigger
Saturday, November 8, 2008 1:12What goals have you set yourself recently that you have achieved?
If you are struggling to answer that question you are thinking too big – this is usually good, but not if you haven’t much experience of setting small goals and achieving them. How can you achieve a big goal if you haven’t even conquered a small one…?
The key is to start with small goals, stick to them and achieve them, and move on to a bigger goal, and not moving on until you have succeeded. These could be small tasks such as – I will go to the gym today / I will save my bus money and walk today / I will clean my desk for 5 minutes at the start of every day.
These small goals, if you set them and dedicate yourself to achieving them can build your disciple, and then you build on these goals, set bigger goals, and apply your new level of discipline.
These small goals will evolve into – I will go to the gym every day for a month and control my diet / I will save $100 on bus fares this month and put it towards investing in my future / I will fully plan and organize my daily schedule. The pinnacle of goal setting is when you reach the point that when you make a goal for yourself, it’s guaranteed you’ll follow through on it and achieve it.
If you start small and build up in this way you will have so much experience of accomplishing your goals that it will be natural to you, and you will nail your bigger goals too.
